Advertisers Are Recording Every Site You Go To! Here’s A Site Where You Can Opt-Out!
By George Lewis | August 14th, 2008 | Category: Featured, Life Tips |Online profiling is the collection of information about Internet surfing behavior within an advertising network for the purpose of formulating a “profile” or representation of users habits and interests (The tracking of all the websites you go to and what you do there!). By placing cookies (text files) on computers (like your!), online advertisers track millions of Internet users without their (and your) knowledge. The controversial practice has caused people demand there be Congressional hearings.
Now, the Federal Trade Commission has negotiated with network advertisers agreed to a set of self-regulatory principles with the industry group.
My Take: Most people don’t realize that advertisers know every site you visit online! Well, now it is possible to OPT-OUT of many of these advertising networks! They have (quietly) launched a web-site so you can do this… And I suggest you click the link and then do it AGAIN at the site to opt-out of many advertising networks!
Note: I just did it and although this lets you opt-out, they explain that they can still send ads to you, what you are actually opting out of them monitoring where you go online - which is still better-than-nothing!
