This article refers to a free California prescription discount card, but at the end of the article, I’ve included a link to similar cards and health discount programs available for most states.

California residents and even their PETS can take advantage of a prescription drug card that can save up to 75% on prescriptions. This program is not a Government paid program. It is available for EVERYONE. There are no income or membership restrictions, no age limit, and no applications to fill out… You just download the card and start saving! (savings average around 30 percent) at more than 50,000 national pharmacies!

Participating pharmacies in California include CVS Pharmacy, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Albertsons, K-mart, Sav-on and Longs Drug Store, as well as thousands of independent pharmacies.

California residents can download a free prescription drug card by visiting www.californiarxcard.com. Anyone not able to access the Web site, or otherwise obtain a member card, can visit any of the participating pharmacies.

This program is powered by UNA Rx Card, which is a division of United Networks of America. UNA Rx Card has set up programs similar to the California Drug Card in New York, Wisconsin, Texas, New Jersey, Ohio, Utah, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.

My Take: Since this is paid for by the drug companies, I believe this is a way for them to increase sales of their original drugs because many people are now buying generics instead… which usually, the Generic is still much cheaper than the “discount” on the original! So, I would suggest that you always check the price of Generic. If it’s cheaper and works as well (which they sometimes don’t) use the Generic. But, if there is no Generic available, this card could be a good way for you to save up to 75% - especially for pet prescriptions which most people don’t even know this discount is available.
